My journey is autobiographical. I paint and draw places which are familiar and important to me. Through my work, I encourage others to be aware of their surroundings and to see this unique and wonderful world which we all occupy.
Sunrises and sunsets have a particular beauty to which I am continuously drawn. There is a warmth in the light and an elusive aura which comes and fades within moments. I have noticed that even turning and looking in another direction at the same time will show dramatically differing views.
The promise of a new day, as the sun rises, offers us a fresh beginning. Each sunrise brings a unique opportunity to begin anew, to fashion another episode in our lives, to interact, notice, participate and share. Conversely, the peacefulness at the end of the day allows us time for introspection as we all slow down to reflect and relax. During dusk and dawn the colors are deeper, more vibrant, warmer. No two sunrises or sunsets are the same. No two days or experiences are the same.
The ebb and flow of my daily life is what gives it meaning and purpose. The daily routines and moments in our lives are those which many of us look upon later with fondness. I strive to embrace and feel each experience as much as possible. I do not want to long for things gone-by but hope to capture them when they occur. I paint with deliberation; seeing and perceiving colors, movement and atmosphere in all their infinite possibilities. I chronicle those moments which move me. I strive to be aware and attentive to the times of day when the light is the most intense and rapidly-changing.
I feel that we should all live in the moment as much as we can. This is the message which I convey through my work. Ordinary, everyday experiences are the ones which comprise the majority of our lives and they will not be wasted if we take the time to savor them.
